When you were young what was your biggest dream? I don’t know about you ladies, but I can remember telling my second grade teacher that I wanted to be a teacher and that I wanted to be married to the perfect guy and have a bunch of perfect kids. (Man have I grown up a lot! lol) Now, I'm pursuing my dreams of becoming a restaurant owner, married, and I'm really trying to keep it under three kids.
From a young age we’ve watched countless movies and have also read countless books on how young women live such a complex life and then once they meet their prince, fall in love, and get married, all of that suddenly stops and they live “happily ever after.” While Disney had the whole “royalty” thing correct (Because each and every one of us are royalty- and don’t let ANYONE lead you to believe anything different!) this whole “happily ever after," thing that supposedly comes with marriage does not exist! (I hate to break it to you queens.)
Now don’t get me wrong! I’m not saying you won’t be happy, and I sure as heck am not saying that it won’t last forever with whomever chooses to marry you! (CATCH THAT! -The Bible says when a MAN FINDS a WIFE, he finds a good thing!! You don’t have to look and wait for him to come! YOU ARE THE GOOD THING! Do you so that when HE FINDS YOU, you’ll be able to HELP and SERVE him to the BEST of your abilities! lol. But that’s a blog for another day!) But yes, despite difficult relationships of my own and seeing divorce in my family, I STILL believe in forever, and I’m going to get it! What I’m trying to tell you beautiful women is that marriage is NOT a destination. It is a WHOLE NEW JOURNEY! It deserves as much energy, time, and respect as every dream, goal, and project you have ever chased.
I’m going to be real with you too, it’s not one of those trips to the Bahamas kind of journeys either. Iol. No, it’s one of those road trip kind of journeys. You know, the ones where you might run out of gas, get tired, get a flat tire, read the map wrong and end up at the wrong place and have to turn completely around… lol, yeah it’s like that. But even though you’ll see all those things happen, when you look at how you and your spouse handled each road block, you’ll become stronger together and you’ll appreciate every beautiful adventure you take on along the way.
I promise you, it’s a beautiful and rewarding thing! You just have to be up for the drive and everything that comes with it. So go ahead and scratch those silly fairy tails out of your mind and buckle up and get ready for the most beautiful journey you’ll ever embark on.
